An exciting week ahead

Last Sunday marked the return of a much-anticipated event: FC Groningen’s annual open day. A moment where fans and partners alike are warmly welcomed for a look in and around the iconic Noordlease Stadium. And this year, once again, it was an afternoon to remember.

FC Groningen Open Day

Among the many visitors was my seven-year-old son – a devoted FC Groningen fan. He was up early, and for good reason: it was going to be an exciting day. Not only would he be attending the open day with his dad and a friend, but he would also finally receive his brand-new FC Groningen shirt. Naturally, as a fellow supporter, I was curious: would he go for the home shirt or the away kit?

Glorious weather and a great atmosphere

In the end, the choice proved too difficult — so he left the stadium wearing both! Alongside his friend, the two strutted proudly around the Noordlease Stadium in full FC Groningen gear. The open day itself was, in a word, fantastic. Glorious weather, a relaxed atmosphere, and a buzzing crowd. Even during the holiday season, loyal FC Groningen supporters turn out in large numbers for this annual tradition.

Counting down to kick-off!

Next Sunday, the 2017/18 Eredivisie season kicks off, and FC Groningen will open with the derby against sc Heerenveen at the Noordlease Stadium. It’s safe to say the excitement is building — and that’s putting it mildly.

Not least because, as FC Groningen’s new main sponsor, Payt has been hard at work making changes to the stadium over the past few months. From logos and banners to LED boards, the skybox, shirts, training kits — you name it. One of the discussions we had internally was about our logo’s red background. It certainly stands out but contrasts quite strongly with FC Groningen’s iconic green. That’s why we made a conscious decision to tone down the red throughout the stadium.

For instance, we chose to make the player tunnel green, not red. Likewise, the roof trim now proudly displays FC Groningen green instead of Payt red. We believe the result strikes a great balance — the green signage is eye-catching yet blends beautifully with the stadium’s overall look.

What do FC Groningen fans think?

While we at Payt are very pleased with the outcome, what really matters is the opinion of the FC Groningen fans. We’re eager to hear your thoughts and hope the changes have your approval.

On behalf of everyone at Payt, we wish you a fantastic match this Sunday. Do let us know what you think of the new sponsor visuals — we’d love to hear your feedback.

See you Sunday!
